VogueUSA-April1992 Demarchelier-100th-cover

April 1992, US Vogue celebrates its 100th anniversary and through the lens of Patrick Demarchelier it displays an iconic cover full of the ‘girls of the moment’, the Supermodels, those beautiful creatures that ruled the world during the early nineties. All dressed in Gap whites, they were Claudia, Yasmeen, Niki, Elaine, Tatjana, Karen, Cindy and the almighty Trinity of Linda, Christy and Naomi.

Obviously, one misses the likes of Stephanie, Helena, Estelle, Yasmine, Kirsten, Rachel, Nadege or Beverly. In the case of some of them, matching schedules was the issue. God i can only imagine how many phone calls and planning did it take to have those ten girls together at the same time for one shot, this is before photoshop so they really had to be there. In the case of others like Helena, they were still not that big in the USA. And then Nadja, Kate or Eva who were just about to break big during the following months, still hadn’t earned their place in the top of the pops.

Those were the times…

Many fashion brands and designers made special ads to commemorate Vogue’s 100th.

Gianni Versace designed and signed and Yasmeen Ghauri posed.

And Christy meets Mademoiselle Coco in the Chanel Atelier so Karl Lagerfeld can make a gorgeous greeting card for the magazine.
